"Rabbit Rider" - mixed media on canvas paper, 16" x 20"

Day 25!  Today's piece does not have a moon!  What?  Yes!  But it is still a night scene.  The Moon Rabbits decided one of their warren wanted to be featured in another painting.  Little did they know, the lucky rabbit would have to transport a rider along the way.  This piece met my goal of 90% without brushes.  Sponges, paper towels, scrapers and charcoal sticks were the primary tools.

Yesterday I floated down memory lane in a boat under the moonlight.  Today I am reminiscing about the perfect childhood winter's day - courtesy of my artistic mother.  In the second grade, we lived in rural Minnesota.  My mom was a city girl (Chicago) and would literally go stir-crazy in that small town.  You just never knew what she would do next.  One morning after a huge snow, we found her outside in the backyard sculpting.  By noon, we had a menagerie of (what seemed like) life-sized snow animals in the back yard.  Want to ride an elephant?  Climb aboard!  Would rather ride a lion?  Over here!  She had iced them all down with the hose to prevent our enthusiasm from destroying their shapes right away.  I think we played in the back yard zoo the entire day and never felt the cold.

This piece is a small homage to that lovely winter's day and the imagination of my wild and crazy mother.

All you readers up there in the wintery north, take advantage of your snowfall and consider building a menagerie in the back yard.  And, if you do, send me pictures I can admire from our sunny Florida backyard in my sandals.

Today's Adoption Event:
"Veruca's Cheeks" - pen and ink on paper 18" x 22" Framed behind glass.

This feisty critter gets her chubby cheeks from her namesake, Veruca Salt ("I want it NOW!"), and will hold enough seeds in her mouth to feed a large family all winter long.  She is housebroken, loves a warm bath in the evening, and cleans up all the little crumbs left behind after your family's meals.  A perfect companion for long winter nights.

Adoption fee $50 (shipping included).  Contact Jen at mailto:imajenation@gmail.com to make adoption arrangements.
