31 Paintings in 31 Days - Day Six

"Harebrained" - acrylic on board, 10" x 8"

And on the sixth day, there was...a rabbit on his head.  You might think this is taking the serendipity theme too far!  Let me explain.

For the past ten months, I have met every week with creative women (one on one or in a group) to delve into our journey as artists in a supportive environment.  Every week we read.  Every morning we write pages...pages and pages and pages, clearing our headspace for creative pursuits.  Have you ever wanted to jumpstart your day?  Dump everything in your brain on paper before you do anything, and all of a sudden your excuses, hesitations, procrastinations and insecurities are shushed and your ability to create, produce and ENJOY are expanded.  This process is even better if someone brings you coffee in bed (one of the lucky women in the spring group had this going on every morning).

After doing this process for awhile, I began to pick up on phrases and words in the reading assignments which might swirl around in my noggin for a bit.  "Gauzy bromide" was the phrase last week.  "Raucous" the week before.  "Anarchic art" the week before that.  Juicy words and phrases.

Can you guess what this week's resonating word was?  That's right - "harebrained."  Of course, my mind immediately lept to a rabbit on the brain, or, literally, a rabbit on the head.  It made me smile.   Even better in context of the sentence "Those oddball, harebrained, nonlinear, and screwball itches, hunches and urges are the path through the briar patch."  Thank you, Julia Cameron!

So the next time your brain is feeling fluffy and strange, sit an imaginary rabbit on your head and smile.  Even if your thoughts don't become more focused and mainstream, you'll have a quiet laugh (which might have other people wondering what's going on in that head of yours).

I can barely keep up with painting every day, and you are not only completing a painting each day, you're writing delicious, thoughtful, brilliant entries too (!!!). You are special my friend. I admire both the work you are doing and the stories behind them.
