I've decided on a theme for this challenge - serendipity! Every day, I find myself drawn to a specific concept or image which may be completely unrelated to the others. Out of respect for my inner voice, I am going with this flow for the next month.
"Sam" - watercolor, ink, chalk on paper. 18" x 24" Today's piece came from a shamanic journey I participated in last month (along with a tiger, who will be at Ciel Gallery's "Animal Planet" show in January). During a shamanic journey, mentally visiting lower and upper worlds to the intense sound of rhythmic drumming can sometimes reveal spirit animals and/or spirit guides with a message or support for the person on the quest. Much to my surprise, Sam appeared as a spirit guide. Strong, quiet and resolute, he stayed by my side throughout the journey and has been with me since. I had to paint him. The inking of Sam's dreadlocks in this piece provided me with hours of meditative drawing and was quite restorative and calming. For those who are curious about meditative doodling, reach out via the contact form on this website and we'll get our "jentangle" on! This piece will be available next month, and is currently on its way to the framers. Inquiries: imajenation@gmail.com.
